girl, you a hot mess

This project really brightened up the hallway. The kids got really good at collaging the “leaves.” It was great to see some kids more independent and focused than I had ever seen them. One other teacher even referred to this project as an “OT’s wetdream” because we practiced fine motor skills a whole lot.

End of October/early November project.

We also listened to Dance Macabre on repeat.

first project of the school year! Art tools inspired by a piece by Frank Lloyd Wright.

i actually saw this project a couple of years ago at an open house of an elementary school for typical kids. stealing ideas from other teachers is nothing to be ashamed of.

That’s my school! Putting on this show has kinda been my project (of course with the help of many). The opening is this weekend and I’m super excited about it! If you’re in the Boston area on Saturday, you should check it out.

Derek loves taking pictures.

today was a good day

today was Road Race, one of the events my school puts on. it’s just like a normal road race, only it’s just our students (and their parents) and its only around the school (but it’s a big school). they wear numbers and there’s an opening an closing ceremony and they can show off their running skills (which we practice every day). so kinda big deal.

and then there are staff performances. last year, i learned how to tap dance in a couple weeks and then i tap danced on stage.

today, i got bit multiple times by one of my favorite students (one of the times it broke my skin). i also was in the staff performances again and i danced to the Jackson 5 in aqua blue pants and an afro wig and had a lot of fun.

the kids ran well. i danced like i was born to do it. it was a good day.

today, last period we went to the playground. it was really nice to be outside.
sometimes I let Derek borrow my camera. he really loves taking pictures, especially with “Cora’s blue camera.” he takes a lot of blurry pictures and pictures of his face and hands and feet, but also takes a lot of pictures of anything he sees. i’m not sure if he uses the viewfinder all the time or how intentional his pictures are, but i think they’re interesting.

today at school, 2 SmartBoards, or whatever they’re called, showed up in the teachers room

they came in REALLY BIG boxes.

the cardboard is in big pieces and also lots of small pieces and is AMAZING. i was so excited about it.

fuck technology. i just want cardboard.

it’s going to be hard to top this valentine, from one of my favorites.
